Baliharchandi Temple, Brahmagiri

About the Temple

The presiding deity is Asta-Bhuja (Eight-Armed) Mahisamardini Durga worshipped as Baliharachandi. The deity is also regarded as goddess of water and navigation, who protects the boatmen and fisherman, when confronted with danger in the sea.

Its one of the Asta ( eight) Shakti Peetha of the state.
The present temple is built on the ruins of another temple. Though there is no record on the exact date in which the temple was built, the architectural design denotes that it might have been constructed after the reign of the Gajapati dynasty i.e after 1650 AD.

Durga Puja or Dussehra is a revered and celebrated festival of the temple.
